The stainless steel 316 water tank from LVJIA is built on the Stainless Steel panel system at our own plant in Dezhou, Shandong. Chloride is the one thing that reliably defeats ordinary stainless, and it is the reason 316 exists.
A stainless steel 316 water tank is a sectional tank pressed from SUS 304 or 316 stainless sheet and closed either by argon arc welding or by bolting, depending on how the tank has to reach site. The wetted surface is solid stainless with no lining, no paint and nothing applied, so the tank does not need recoating at any point in its life. LVJIA builds it from 125 litres to 500,000 litres.
SUS 304 handles most water without difficulty, but chloride ions break down its passive film locally and start pitting, which is why coastal air, brackish make-up water and heavily chlorinated circuits all cause trouble. Adding two to three percent molybdenum, as 316 does, stabilises the film against exactly that mechanism. The practical rule is straightforward: where the water or the air carries salt, specify 316 and stop worrying about the wall.
Panels are drawn from 1.5 to 4 mm (standard; up to 8 mm by design) stainless sheet, with heavier gauges up to 8 mm where the head demands it. A welded tank is sealed with argon arc welding, which leaves a clean, fully fused seam and no filler that can leach; a bolted tank uses stainless fasteners on a food-grade gasket so it can be carried in through a doorway and assembled in place. SUS 304 suits potable and domestic duty, SUS 316 is specified where chlorides or coastal air are in play.
