The enamel biogas tank from LVJIA is built on the Enameled panel system at our own plant in Dezhou, Shandong. In a digester the gas above the sludge is far more destructive than the sludge itself, and that is where tanks fail.
An enamel biogas tank is a bolted tank whose steel panels are fired with a glass glaze at high temperature, so the surface meeting the water is chemically glass rather than metal. It does not rust, it takes no coating and it adds no taste, and the glaze is fused into the steel rather than painted onto it. Panels come in 3 × 1 m; 2 × 1 m; 1.5 × 1 m; 1 × 1 m; 1 × 0.5 m; 0.5 × 0.5 m, and the tank is rated for water between 4 and 100 °C.
Anaerobic digestion produces hydrogen sulphide, which dissolves in the moisture condensing on the roof and walls above the liquid and oxidises into sulphuric acid. Concrete is eaten away from the gas space downwards and steel corrodes rapidly in the same zone, which is why so many digesters fail at the top rather than the bottom. Glass fused to steel is inert to both the sulphide and the acid, so the gas space lasts exactly as long as the wetted section below it.
The panel is pressed from 2 to 4.5 mm steel depending on where it sits in the wall, then enamelled on both faces so the outside is protected as well as the inside. Assembled, the wall section measures 12 mm. Panels bolt together on a sealed joint, and because the glaze is inert the same tank handles potable water, fire reserve and mildly aggressive process water without a change of specification.
