Enamel Biogas Tank, Sludge Digester

As an enamel water tank manufacturer in China, LVJIA makes sectional enameled steel water tanks. Enamel glaze, a glass coating, is fused onto each steel panel at high temperature, so the water never touches bare steel. The panels bolt together with rubber seals into tanks for rainwater, fire protection, building supply and industrial storage, and the smooth, hygienic surface never needs repainting.

Enamel tank FAQ

Enameled steel water tank questions, answered by the factory

The questions buyers ask us most often before an enameled steel water tank is quoted, answered with the figures our own inspection sheets use.

Ask our engineers
What is an enameled steel water tank?

An enameled steel water tank is a bolted, sectional tank whose panels carry a glass glaze fused onto the steel at high temperature rather than a paint or a resin film. The glaze and the steel become one material, so the surface that meets the water is glass: it will not rust, it does not chalk in sunlight and it does not carry taste or odour into the stored volume. Enameled steel water tank panels are pressed, fired, then bolted together on site with rubber seals, which is what allows a tank to be shipped flat and assembled in a plant room a lorry could never reach.

Which panel sizes and capacities are available?

Six pressed panel sizes cover almost every layout: 3 × 1 m; 2 × 1 m; 1.5 × 1 m; 1 × 1 m; 1 × 0.5 m; 0.5 × 0.5 m. Tank dimensions are configured from standard panels. Non-standard panel dimensions are not offered as standard options. Because an enameled steel water tank is modular, capacity is sized to order rather than picked from a catalogue — the tank is built to the footprint and the head you have, using the largest panel that fits and half panels to close out the edges. Send the room dimensions, the door width and the volume you need and LVJIA returns an arrangement drawing with the panel schedule before manufacture starts.

What water temperatures can the tank hold?

Rated storage for a standard enameled steel water tank is 4 to 100 °C, which covers cold potable storage, fire reserves, chilled-water buffers and domestic hot-water duty in most buildings. The glaze is fired well above any service temperature it will ever see, so thermal cycling does not craze it; the practical limit is set by the gasket compound rather than the enameled steel water tank panel. Where a duty runs hotter, or where the tank cycles hard between hot and cold, tell us the temperature profile and the seal specification is changed to suit.

How does enamel compare with glass-fused-to-steel (GFS) tanks?

They are the same family. Glass-fused-to-steel is the name the water and wastewater industry uses for the bolted silo-type tank; an enameled steel water tank is the same fusion process applied to pressed sectional panels for buildings, fire reserves and process water. Both put an inert glass face against the water and both rely on the coating being fired onto the steel rather than applied over it. If your specification calls for GFS, LVJIA builds to it; the difference is the panel geometry and the assembly detail, not the coating chemistry.

Is the water safe for drinking?

Yes, when the tank is specified for potable duty. The wetted face of an enameled steel water tank is fired glass, which is inert, non-porous and easy to wipe down, and the bolted joints are closed with non-toxic rubber seals. Tanks carry CE certification for water tanks under ICR/VC/HS2506113 and every finished tank is filled and held at full head before it is packed. For a drinking-water supply the tank is normally paired with a sealed vented manhole, a filtered inlet and a separate wash-out drain so the volume can be turned over and cleaned.

What colours and finishes can I order?

Black is the standard enamel, and other enamel colours are available on request — the glaze is pigmented before firing, so the colour is in the glass rather than on top of it and will not fade or peel. External panels can be matched to a building scheme, and internal panels are normally left in the standard finish because it shows up sediment during inspection. Ask for a fired sample panel if a specific colour has to be signed off before an enameled steel water tank is released for production.

How long does manufacturing and delivery take?

An enameled steel water tank runs through six controlled stages — enquiry and drawing, steel panel cutting, pressing, enamel firing, inspection and testing, then packing and delivery — in about 15 working days from drawing approval. One hundred per cent of finished product is inspected before crating. Panels ship flat-packed on pallets, which keeps the freight cost of an enameled steel water tank close to that of plain plate and lets the tank be carried through a standard doorway and built inside an existing plant room. LVJIA ships to China, the Middle East, Africa, North America and South-East Asia.
