The SMC water tank from LVJIA is built on the GRP/FRP/SMC panel system at our own plant in Dezhou, Shandong. In a working building the difficult part is never the tank, it is getting it in without emptying the place.
An SMC water tank for hotels is a bolted sectional tank built from hot-press moulded SMC panels. Sheet moulding compound is a glass-reinforced polyester pressed at heat and pressure into a single stiff panel, so the finished wall is inert, light and dimensionally exact. Panels come in 3 × 1 m; 2 × 1 m; 1.5 × 1 m; 1 × 1 m; 1 × 0.5 m; 0.5 × 0.5 m, which is how the tank is fitted to an awkward plant room rather than the plant room to the tank. LVJIA builds it from 1 to 5000 m³.
SMC is sheet moulding compound — glass fibre and resin pressed into a stiff panel under heat. That gives a tank three things a residential building cares about: it is light enough to carry up in the service lift, it insulates well enough that stored water does not swing with the plant-room temperature, and it will not rust and stain the supply to the rooms above. A block of flats can have its storage replaced over a weekend without scaffolding, cranes or a notice to residents.
The wall is a moulded SMC panel — 8 mm on a shallow tank, thickening to 16 mm at full height, with no metal in contact with the water at all, so there is nothing to corrode, nothing to coat and nothing to earth. Panels are drawn together on an external flange with stainless bolts and a food-grade gasket, and internal tie rods brace the larger shells. Because a single panel weighs what one person can carry, the whole tank goes up a stairwell and through a standard doorway, which is why so many of these are retrofits into buildings that were never designed to hold a tank.
