Rooftop GRP Water Tank, Bolted — description and technical data

Product overview

A rooftop GRP water tank that goes up without a crane

The rooftop GRP water tank from LVJIA is built on the GRP/FRP/SMC panel system at our own plant in Dezhou, Shandong. Getting a tank onto a roof is normally the most expensive part of the job, and it does not have to be.

What is a rooftop GRP water tank?

A rooftop GRP water tank is a bolted sectional tank built from hot-press moulded SMC panels. Sheet moulding compound is a glass-reinforced polyester pressed at heat and pressure into a single stiff panel, so the finished wall is inert, light and dimensionally exact. Panels come in 3 × 1 m; 2 × 1 m; 1.5 × 1 m; 1 × 1 m; 1 × 0.5 m; 0.5 × 0.5 m, which is how the tank is fitted to an awkward plant room rather than the plant room to the tank. LVJIA builds it from 1 to 5000 m³.

How a rooftop GRP water tank reaches the roof

Craning a tank onto a city roof means a road closure, a lift plan, a licence and a crew, and it has to happen before the roof plant room is enclosed. A bolted GRP tank skips all of it. A standard panel weighs around 25 kg, so it goes up in the passenger lift or is carried up the stairwell, and the tank is assembled on the slab. The dead load is lower too, which matters when the storage sits above occupied floors.

How the rooftop GRP water tank is built

The wall is a moulded SMC panel — 8 mm on a shallow tank, thickening to 16 mm at full height, with no metal in contact with the water at all, so there is nothing to corrode, nothing to coat and nothing to earth. Panels are drawn together on an external flange with stainless bolts and a food-grade gasket, and internal tie rods brace the larger shells. Because a single panel weighs what one person can carry, the whole tank goes up a stairwell and through a standard doorway, which is why so many of these are retrofits into buildings that were never designed to hold a tank.

Sizes, panels and capacity

Roof tanks are usually 5 to 100 m³, built up to 3 m high, though the panel system runs to 5000 m³. The empty tank weighs a fraction of the equivalent steel vessel.

Testing, standards and certification

Every rooftop GRP water tank is filled and held at full head before it leaves the factory, and no joint is allowed to weep. The plant is certified to ISO 9001 and the inspection certificate ships with the order; the full set is on our certifications page. The same specification is published on our Made-in-China storefront, where LVJIA is an audited supplier with a 5.0 store rating on Alibaba, 100% on-time dispatch and a response time under one hour.

Where the rooftop GRP water tank is used

  • Roof storage tanks — gravity supply to the floors below.
  • Break tanks at height — separating the mains from the building.
  • Roof fire reserves — a dedicated volume for the wet riser.
  • Tank replacement — a failed roof tank swapped without a crane.

How to order a rooftop GRP water tank

Pricing for the rooftop GRP water tank starts at US$20 per panel, falling to US$19 from 10 and US$18 from 50, FOB Tianjin or Qingdao. The minimum order is one set and lead time is within 15 working days from Dezhou, Shandong. Roof loading should be confirmed with the structural engineer; the filled weight and bearer reactions are given on the drawing.

Send the capacity you need and the space you have, and LVJIA returns an arrangement drawing with the panel schedule before you commit to anything. Our engineers answer specification questions directly through technical help, and the rest of the range sits on the GRP/FRP/SMC water tank page.

Other LVJIA tanks worth comparing

Where another material suits the site better, the galvanized water tank for buildings is the same tank in hot-dip galvanized steel, for sites where a heavier steel wall suits the head. Elsewhere in the GRP/FRP/SMC range there is the GRP fire water tank for fire reserves, the GRP sectional water tank for bolted assembly inside a finished building and the GRP potable water tank for drinking water.

Panel wall
  • Moulded, not welded. — SMC panels are hot-press moulded in one shot, so the wall is a single inert piece with no seam to leak and no metal to rust.
  • One person can carry a panel. — The tank goes up a stairwell and through a standard doorway, which is why it suits retrofits.
  • Bolted from outside. — Stainless fasteners on a food-grade gasket, so a panel can be replaced without draining the building.

Product highlights

Why buyers choose the SMC panel tank

  • Nothing corrodes. No metal is in contact with the water, so the tank does not rust, pit or need recoating.
  • It fits where steel cannot.Panels are carried in by hand and bolted in place, with no crane and no welding on site.
  • The water stays clean. An inert moulded surface, a sealed lid and an insect-proof vent keep the stored volume in condition.
