The GRP wastewater tank from LVJIA is built on the GRP/FRP/SMC panel system at our own plant in Dezhou, Shandong. Wastewater attacks its own container, and the gas above the liquid is usually worse than the liquid itself.
A GRP wastewater tank is a bolted sectional tank built from hot-press moulded SMC panels. Sheet moulding compound is a glass-reinforced polyester pressed at heat and pressure into a single stiff panel, so the finished wall is inert, light and dimensionally exact. Panels come in 3 × 1 m; 2 × 1 m; 1.5 × 1 m; 1 × 1 m; 1 × 0.5 m; 0.5 × 0.5 m, which is how the tank is fitted to an awkward plant room rather than the plant room to the tank. LVJIA builds it from 1 to 5000 m³.
Septic effluent generates hydrogen sulphide, which oxidises in the headspace into sulphuric acid and eats concrete and steel from the top down. That is why an old holding tank fails above the liquid line rather than below it. A moulded GRP panel is unaffected by both the acid and the sulphide, so the vapour space lasts as long as the wetted part, and the smooth surface gives solids and grease much less to cling to between empties.
The wall is a moulded SMC panel — 8 mm on a shallow tank, thickening to 16 mm at full height, with no metal in contact with the water at all, so there is nothing to corrode, nothing to coat and nothing to earth. Panels are drawn together on an external flange with stainless bolts and a food-grade gasket, and internal tie rods brace the larger shells. Because a single panel weighs what one person can carry, the whole tank goes up a stairwell and through a standard doorway, which is why so many of these are retrofits into buildings that were never designed to hold a tank.
